Southampton Astronomical Society Founded 1924 Stan Cargill Telescope

8 ½ “ (215mm) f 7.5 Newtonian reflecting telescope with a German type equatorial mount on a wooden pier with removable rear legs to aid transportability. Tube is 64” long. The telescope is just transportable! Made in 1975. Dedicated to the memory of Stan Cargill who donated the mirror blank. Blank was ground, polished and figured by Ernie Mason and Bill Wakefield. Design by Brian Knight who built the telescope and mount. The wooden pier was designed by Brian Knight and made by Michael Hobbs. Other members involved were Dave Wright, John Thompson, John Campbell, John Cawsey and George Miller.
